Beginners' Guide to the Las Vegas Swing Dancing Scene

I want to try swing dancing in Vegas. Where do I go?

If you have never danced before in your life, or you are new to Las Vegas, and want to enjoy some swing dancing, there are several great options for you here in Las Vegas.

You might be a little intimidated looking at the calendar on the front page. That calendar contains all the scheduled swing events that I hear about. I can not vouch for the quality of all of them.

So I wanted to make this special post to highlight the events that I know are good for beginners. If you are a beginner looking to start dancing, I recommend these three weekly events:

Aruba Swings

The Aruba hotel on the strip has been the primary place to swing dance in Vegas for years. There is a FREE beginner lesson and social dance every Friday night (except the first Friday of the month). There is also a beginner lesson on Friday. Lots of cool new people show up every Friday, so you should too! More details...

You must be 21 or older to come to the Friday dances, but there is no age restriction for the lessons on Sunday.

The teacher and primary DJ at the Aruba is Mark Brunton. Mark is a great guy. When I was new in Vegas last June he made sure I felt welcome and comfortable. So you should come meet Mark too.

If you like the bar/club atmosphere, with dim lights and concrete floors, come out to the Aruba next Friday or Sunday (and ask for David!)

UNLV Lindy Hop Dance Club

Every week during the school year, UNLV's Lindyhop Club holds free swing lessons!

I have never attended one of their lessons, but I've met the teachers and several students because they come out to the Aruba and Las Palmas.
